river update

The Mississippi River at Natchez sits at 54.52'. Water has now covered the lowest dip on Silver Street, reaching all the way across the street. Gov. Haley Barbour is requesting a major disaster declaration for 14 counties, including Adams, Jefferson, and Wilkinson counties.

This major disaster declaration would provide assistance to both individuals and public agencies, in addition to the previous federal disaster declaration already in use.
Officials have released an inundation map for the Natchez/Vidalia area. As you will see in the link they are still predicting that the levee will hold at Natchez and Vidalia; click the orange link, Inundation Map for a glimpse of the predictions.

Will update more later on.
